Heavenly Libations is a small business nestled in the fertile Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. We specialize in refreshing beverages inspired by time honoured traditional recipes. All our products are hand-crafted in small batches using mostly in season and local fruits, herbs, roots and flowers. We currently create Shrub Concentrates, Probiotic Sodas, and Simple Syrups.
Many people ask how this all got going, so I thought I’d share our story. I said “We” earlier, but to be honest, its just me! I’m Jessica, and this is the story of my little drink business. It all started in the fall of 2016 when I was tasked with dealing with the bounty of apples from my family’s 4 large apple trees. Some of them were juiced, but my mind being what it is (always wanting to figure out how things are made) decided to try making apple cider vinegar. From there, it was only a matter of time before I had descended into the rabbit hole of fermenting and from there into old fashioned drinks. I’d be lying if I told you my kitchen didn’t look like a mad scientists lab, with jars of stuff randomly bubbling everywhere!
Much fun was had, some things have become memories of the past, some I still make, but Shrubs were something that I couldn’t get enough of. Every fruit I could find became a Shrub experiment. Pretty soon there wasn’t much room in the fridge for anything else!
At the time I was at home, with my young kid, and a friend had mentioned that I should think about selling my drinks. I did some research and there was only one other company selling Shrub Concentrates on Vancouver Island. So I decided to make a go of it. With the help of Work BC, I was able to join the Self Employment Program and pretty soon I was off to educate the Valley about Shrubs!
I’m so grateful for all the amazing businesses over the years that have supported us, especially the Comox Valley Farmer’s Market! Oh, and especially YOU, the customer! I love that I get to make people happy with something that makes me happy to make 🙂
So you’re probably wondering where to find us! We don’t have a store front, but here’s a list:
Comox Valley Farmers Market – We are here pretty much every Saturday of the year! April- October at the Courtenay Fairgrounds, and the rest of the year at the Native Sons Hall. All our products are available, and we have samples! We occasionally can be found at the Wednesday summer market as well.
The Mustard Lady – These awesome folks carry a selection of our Probiotic Sodas as well as our Shrub Concentrates.
Honey Grove Bakery – Another great local business! They carry our line of Probiotic Sodas.
The Sourdough Whisperer – Another amazing bakery, also carrying our Probiotic Sodas.
Gigi’s Oysters – These guys make amazing cocktails with our Shrub Concentrates!
